Hello every lovely human being! Hope your week is going on smoothly and you’ve had a nice time! It has been one hot summer here, for sure. Usually it rains through the whole summer, maybe couple days of sun here an there, in Finland. But now there has been over +30 warm every single day and it has rained only once at night.
I’m not going to whine about it, because I really do like it! But we need more ACs in our house for sure, because I bet it’s hotter inside than outside.
Anyway, today we are taking a look at the Mid Year Book Freak Out tag! I’m well aware that we have passed the mid year mark already, but it’s not yet too late to do that, right?
BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2021
I have no idea how I’m supposed to make my top 5 lists for the end of the year when even at this point this was so hard to pick! I’ve chosen my books wisely this year, apparently. I’ve read more 5 star books than anything else. BUT. In the end I had to pick With the Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo as my current favorite. After all, it was a book that I wasn’t even going to ever read. And then for some reason decided to go for it and ended up loving it!
BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2021
Wow, my “complete a series this year” is going so well! Other than graphic novels and re-reading ACOTAR, Unravel Me is the only sequel that I have read this year.. Wow… I’m good at starting new series, not so good at finishing them?
Anyway, Unravel by Tahereh Mafi Me deserves this spot anyway! It was a 5 star read for me and well, I feel kind of traitor because I think I hopped on to another ship.
NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas for sure! It has been on my shelf for a long time but I haven’t gathered the strength to actually read it yet. It has been said to be quite heavy and emotional, not to read if mentally not in a good place at the moment etc. So I’m a little bit scared to read it! Mainly because I tend to get emotionally super attached to books and well, I might come out as a mess from this one?
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR
It’s Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff for sure! I’ve been waiting for this to be released ever since Mr. Kristoff announced it to be a thing. This is the only book I have ever pre-ordered. I don’t usually pre-order because I don’t think I’ll get them shipped to me on time but this is a book I really want to have.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I’m sorry, okay! I was super hyped as well to read this book, like everyone else was. But it was just too slow paced for my liking.
An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson. Yes, it was a mediocre book, but it was still a surprise. I did read reviews before I read the book, which I rarely do. And those were super mixed! From there I thought that for sure I would end up disliking the book. But I did like it, it was an okay book for me. I really liked the fact that the fae was rather different than they usually are in books. What makes it a surprise though, is the fact that I did end up on the liking side of reviews in the end!
FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)
Elizabeth Acevedo for sure! I’ve sadly only read 3 new to me authors’ books and hers stands out the most! It is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year for sure.
NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
I have to admit it then.. But Warner (Shatter Me series) is seriously growing on me and I don’t think I can keep denying it anymore.
NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER
I have to name two. Nick and Charlie from Heartstopper. We need to protect these two amazing persons at all costs! I need my own Nick and Charlie in my life, honestly.
A BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks. I’ve had kind of love-hate relationship with Rowell’s books. But this one was pure happiness and joy to my poor little heart. Such a lovely little graphic novel.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL YOU’VE BOUGHT (OR RECEIVED) THIS YEAR
I’ve bought quite a lot of books this year! But I think I have to go with Middlegame by Seanan McGuire. There is something mesmerizing about this cover that I just love to look at it.
WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR
All the backlist books that have been sitting on my shelves unnoticed for years now. I might have to hide everything else to get all those read or then just donate them to the library. I don’t know. I need to get better with reading all those. But if I have to name at least one book that I need to read, I’m going to say A Court of Silver Flames. That was one of my most anticipated books and I really really want to read it!
