MY MOTHER’S SILENCE by LAUREN WESTWOOD

Honestly I thought this book to be something totally different than it actually was. For some reason I thought I’d be reading some serious mystery thriller with murder of some sort. I came back many times to read the synopsis again and again but I guess I didn’t read it thoroughly.

THE GOOD SON by YOU-JEONG JEONG

This did make me get chills but not in a good way. I don’t know why it’s labeled as mystery since there is none but I guess thriller it is, maybe even horror with all the details.

BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO BUT YOU COULD’VE DONE BETTER by HILLARY CAMPBELL

None of these made me even smile. I shook my head, grinned and furrowed my brows so much it made my face and head hurt. It has been over 10 years since my last break up and that was bad one but I don’t think that this would have made me feel any better even if I had just broken up with someone.

LILLIAN BOXFISH TAKES A WALK by KATHLEEN ROONEY

This book was pretty insignificant for me. I had so high hopes for this book, even though I didn’t really remember why I put this on my tbr back in the days. Maybe because I love the cover? This was a book where Lillian literally takes a walk and goes through her life. I didn’t connect with her at all and that alone ate a lot of my interest toward her story. She seemed like a lovely person though. This could be a good book for someone who enjoys books like this. I on the other hand enjoy books with more action, pretty much.

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE by CELESTE NG

DNF, not a book for me. It felt like something that wouldn’t never end and just kept rolling over the same things. I like books that are more fast paced and this wasn’t something like that.

  1. I have Little Fires Everywhere coming up for a book club pick and I’m hoping it lives up to the hype. Quite often books hyped so much are quite boring though, so I can see why you’d not enjoy it. Great list Hanna

  2. IStars: Madeleine Stowe, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andie MacDowell e haven’t read any of the books you’ve mentioned here but I understand the need for a faster pace. It’s also so disappointing when the cover, blurb and hype persuade you to get your hopes up and then it just doesn’t do it for you.
I hope that 2020 has more wonderfully surprising reads than the disappointing one – for both of us. x

  3. […] Top 5 Tuesday – This week we talked about the book that didn’t meet our expectations! It was surprisingly hard list to make. Though I know I had quite a list that of books that weren’t as good as I thought those would be. But I don’t think “it wasn’t worth the hype” is good enough reason for five books. […]
