Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
“This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” he asks. “What you sacrificed everything for. Go on. It’s all yours.”
Let’s start with me admitting that The Cruel Prince was so much better than I thought it would be. I thought tis would be yet another overhyped book that just wouldn’t live up to it for me, but I was so wrong and I’m glad that I actually read this!
At first it was a little hard for me to get a hold of everything. Who is who. Whom are they related to etc. But it didn’t keep me from getting the hang of the story. And let me tell you, it was quite a ride with all the scheming and betrayals!
I loved how determined Jude was. She wanted to make a difference, didn’t want to be everyone’s doormat through her whole life. But she did fell quite easily into the charming one’s arms. For that I think she deserved a little what she got.
Taryn on the other hand was pretty nonchalant and even annoying at times. Vivi I liked! She’s quite firecracker that one. Hope all the best for her!
Cardan feels like a typical bully. Has a miserable life and wants to make other’s lives as miserable too.
I’m not feeling the hyped romance here. Honestly, I can’t even see it coming in the Wicked King. I’m rooting more for Vivi and Heather, than i am for the others. They just seem to despise eachother way too much for the spark to happen.
All in all The Cruel Prince was good! I loved all the scheming where even me got surprised of the twists in plans. There is a lot of going on all the time but it doesn’t become too much nor too repetitive. This will keep you reading through the nights when you’re supposed to be sleeping and you will feel it in the morning.
