TOP 5 TUESDAY : Books That Got Me Into Reading

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Basically every week there’s different topic to list your own top 10, though I do them as top 5.

September 12: Throwback Freebie: Ten Books I Loved During The First Year I Started My Blog, Favorite Books Published 5 or 10 or 15 Years Ago, Ten Older Books I Forgot How Much I Loved, etc. etc. Tweak however you want!

♦ The whole Harry Potter series! I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone who’s been reading this little blog of mine. I’ve mentioned this quite a few times before. This was probably the biggest reason I ever got into the world of books. I mean who doesn’t love Harry Potter?!

♦ The Twilight series. Yes, I’m aware that not many people talks about these anymore, other than they don’t like them. But back in the days when these were published, me, my sister and my mother read them together (as well as Harry  Potter) and we had a good time! All of us really liked them then but I’m pretty sure that if I’d ever re-read these, I probably wouldn’t enjoy them anymore but back then I did!

The Baby-Sitters Club guys! OH how I loved these books when I was younger! I think I was like 12 or something like that, my father had just found a new woman and since I were daddy’s girl, I didn’t like her one bit. I was a total arse towards her. And these books were my safe place at my father’s place. I think I read all of them back then but I’m pretty sure they don’t exist anymore.

Goosebumps books! Tell me there ain’t no one who haven’t read any of these? These were so hilarious and good back in the days! I remember how our library lady was smiling so hard when I left from the library with a huge pile of Goosebumps books with me and she said to the next customer “this girl is a huge reader! I’ve seen her here every week and every time she leaves with new pile of books”. Hah, I was so proud of myself then, she was the first person to actually say something nice about me back in that time.

Anne Frank’s diary. I’ve read this book probably like hundred times and different editions too. But this book fits in this TOP 5 too since it’s one of the books along with all these previous ones that I read at the time when I really started to get into the world of books. And this has stayed with me ever since, I still get it from library every now and then and read it. It’s that something that I think everyone should read.

I might have cheated a little since there’s all these series of books but these are the books that I was reading a lot back in the days. And well, some of them I still read every now and then!

  1. Harry Potter so good, of course. I loved the Fear Street books back in my day before he wrote Goosebumps. But my son has loved those. I hear you about Twilight. I read them up like brain candy when the first two came out.

  2. I’m completely with you! I read Harry Potter as a 2nd grader and it hooked me. Then later when I was busier with school and had forgotten about fun reading, Twilight got me in again! It’s definitely a gateway book!
